If you live anywhere near Farmington Hills, you’ve probably spent a sunny weekend at Heritage Park. Maybe your kids ran through the splash pad, picked up pinecones along the trails, or begged for “just five more minutes” at the playground.

This park isn’t just a park  it’s where so many of our family stories quietly unfold. The summer concerts, the sledding hill, the trails that smell like pine after a rain… it’s a local favorite for a reason.

📸 My Best Advice for Family Photos with Young Kids

The best sessions with toddlers are the ones that let them be completely themselves. Forget “sit still” or “say cheese” the magic happens when you meet them in their world.

Here’s my best advice after years of photographing little ones (and raising three of my own):

1. Let your child lead the way. Toddlers have their own rhythm. If they want to explore or show you something, follow their lead that’s when the real smiles show up.

2. Be prepared to go with the flow. Toddlers almost never listen for an hour straight, and that’s okay. We’ll roll with it, take breaks, and keep things light.

3. Let them come to you. The sweetest moments are usually when kids wander off, then run back for a hug or giggle.

4. Let them roam and be adventurous. Heritage Park has so much room to explore trails, open grass, and hidden corners perfect for storytelling.

5. Be playful and act like I’m not even there. Tickle fights, chasing games, messy cuddles that’s what makes photos feel like your family.

6. Timing matters. Choose a time you know your toddler will most likely be in a good mood. I’m always happy to help families plan around naps, dinner, and the best light of the day.

You don’t need perfection just presence. Let your child be who they are, and I’ll take care of the rest.
